It is the need of the hour to ‘Say No to Tobacco’. Tobacco smoking poses a risk to health due to the inhalation of poisonous chemicals in tobacco smoke. Carbon Monoxide, Tar, Nicotine, Cyanide and thousands of different substances in cigarette smoke have been proven to cause heart and lung diseases and cancer. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tobacco is the single greatest cause of preventable death globally. Tobacco users may develop tolerance and dependence.
The Social Activity Committee of the Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology observed World Anti- Tobacco day in collaboration with the Kottoor Geethanjali Library and Family Planning Association of India on 31st May 2017. The Proramme was Chaired by Dr. Suni Mary Varghese, Faculty, LMIHMCT, and Inagurated by Dr. Shobha, Family Planning Association of India, and felicitatied by Asso.Prof. Jojee Paul.S LMIHMCT, and Dr. V S Jayakumar, Secretary Kottoor Geethanjali Library. The main objective of this programmes was to make the youth aware and to stay alert on the consequence of tobacco. Dr. Shobha, from the Family Planning Association of India, led the awareness class. About 100 student audience participated actively. The session was enriched with Documentery, Short Film and Power Point Presentations. Brochures from the Kerala State Excise Department, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment were distributed to all students.
