Curricular and co-curricular activities are given substantial importance by Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology consistently. Considering the nature of Hotel and Hospitality jobs, supporting Academic activities such as sessions on interpersonal skills, motivation and communication skills were provided to the students regularly along with balanced and active participation in sports, games and events conducted by the University of Kerala. Our students were also active participants and have been winners in inter-collegiate culinary and hospitality competitions. Activities were not limited to students but also extended to the teaching staff with skills development programmes and industry updates to facilitate better teaching.

2. FOOD FESTIVAL -ALIMESPASSO FEBRUARY 2016
Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology organised a food and fun festival as a part of curriculum and active exposure to the final year students. Food festivals named “ALIMESPASSO” is considered as a platform for students to showcase their skills in different areas of hospitality and tourism including their expertise in various cuisines. The profit generated is always donated to charity every year, thus helping the needed in the society.
We organised ALIMESPASSO 2016 Food Festival based on the theme “Taste of 5 States” at Priyadarshini hall, East fort, Thiruvananthapuram from 21st April 2016 to 24th April 2016. It was inaugurated by Dr. Lekshmi Nair, Principal, Law Academy Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of Mr. Philip John, secretary, LMCES and Prof. P.M. Hormis,director, Lourdes Matha group of institution. Mr. Gopakumar, Research Officer, Food Safety Department, FSSAI, inaugurated the Seminar and Dr. Raheena Begum, former HOD Govt. College for Women Thiruvananthapuram inaugurated the Exhibition “FOOD SAFETY COMBATING FOOD SCARCITY”. Mr. Ranjith Sarovar, Tele-artist in Food on Road Show, inaugurated the Cultural events. ALIMESPASSO 2016, a 4 days food and fun fest was covered by our Radio partner 93.5 RED FM and a few news papers which helped us to draw greater public attention. The students catered nearly 1000 customers in three days which could be considered a great success for the efforts. The yearly food fests by LMIHMCT is a significant contribution to the local tourism activities and increasing demand of peoples’ varied palate. The event was repoted by Amrita T.V, Kairali.T.V and Jeevan T.V along with the print media.
3. A RALLY TO CREATE AWARENESS ON REDUCING FOOD WASTAGE, FEBRUARY 2016
In February 2016, Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology co-ordinated a ‘Rally’ with the slogan “AVOID FOOD WASTAGE AND ENSURE FOOD SECURITY”. Rally from Kowdiar Palace to Museum Junction was led by 240 students and 50 staff, we took an oath to conserve resources and avoid food waste for ensuring food security. Slogans, leaflets, and placards gave message to the general public on preventing food wastage and warning food security, it has drawn considerable public attention via various media. The Rally was flagged off by Mr. P. Vijayan, Deputy Inspector General of Police and was sponsored by NIMS Medicity.
4. EXHIBITION ON FOOD SAFETY COMBATING FOOD SCARCITY, FEBRUARY 2016
An exhibition on “FOOD SAFETY COMBATING FOOD SCARCITY” was conducted at Priyadarshini Hall, Eastfort, Thiruvananthapuram, were students from other colleges also participated and portrayed various ideas. Dr. Raheena Begum, former HOD Govt. College for Women Thiruvananthapuram inaugurated the exhibition Mr. Philip John, secretary, LMCES and Prof. P.M. Hormis,director, Lourdes Matha group of institution felicitated the event. The value and ideas for Food Safety, Food Security, Quality Control, was projected in different attractive techniques which attracted visitors’ attention. There were seventeen stalls representing each domain. A total of fifty students participated in the exhibition, and about 800 visitors viewed the venture. 5. ONE DAY SEMINAR
One Day Seminar on “FOOD SAFETY COMBATING FOOD SCARCITY”, was conducted at Priyadarshini Hall, Eastfort, Thiruvananthapuram in FEBRUARY 2016. Mr. Gopakumar, Research Officer, Food Safety Department, FSSAI, Thiruvananthapuram, inaugurated the seminar and handled the the morning session on ‘Food Safety’. Dr. Raheena Begum, former HOD Govt. College for Women Thiruvananthapuram, handled the afternoon session on ‘Food Security’. Paper presentation session of students on various topics related to microbial changes in food, detection of food adulteration, food health, hygiene and sanitation arose the public interest. This session enabled the students to share their knowledge and improve their communication skills. These skills play a prominent role not only during the course, but also after the completion of the course, especially during their job search and career advancement.
6. INDUSTRY VISIT (VISIT TO HERITAGE WINERY AND VINEYARDS IN BANGALURU), NOVEMBER 2016
As part of curriculum students makes an Industrial visit every year on selected spots of interest related to Hospitality and Tourism Industry. Students use this opportunity to experience hospitality of different tourist destinations in south India. It is significant for a tourism and hospitality scholar, to acquaint with the customers’ side in the industry. Students of 3rd year made a 7 days round journey, and they visited major tourist destinations like Bengaluru, Goa, Mysore and Coorg. They visited HERITAGE WINERY AND VINEYARDS in Bengaluru which was a first ever wonderful experience for the students where they could experience a part of what they learn. The wine making process from grape to bottle, vineyards, learned how to see, swirl, sniff, and sip wine.
7. WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL DAY – A Nature Club Activity
Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology never forgets to observe days of socio-environmental importance by co-ordinating activities and programmes relevant to them. The world environmental day was observed by planting saplings of trees by students and teachers on 5th JUNE 2015.

To encourage awareness and action for the protection of our environment we celebrated the world environmental day. Student representatives of the Nature Club encourages all the students to appreciate nature and work towards preserving it. The major activities of the nature club members headed by a team of faculties was to create awareness, motivate and educate students about environment conservation, planting saplings, and to give awareness on Ecosystem.
8. SESSION ON CYBER CRIMES , ANTI-NARCOTICS AND DE-ADDICTION CAMP
Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology also cares to educate the students about their social responsibilities by arranging off class room sessions lead by influential personalities. All the students of the college actively participated.
- In August 2015, by Mr. Vinaya Kumar DYSP, Hi tech Cell, Kerala Police gave a lecture and interacted with the students clearing their doubts.
- Mr. Rishraj Singh, The Excise commissioner Police, Anti Narcotics Wing, gave a detailed lecture on use and miss-use of narcotics during the Anti narcotics awareness session. ‘Vadaruthee Malarukal’. It was the most important in current scenario where many of the students were influenced by several types of drugs on and off campus, it was followed by a question and answer session for the students.

9. BAKE CAKE FOR CHARITY
The practice of charity means giving voluntary help to those in need, as a humanitarian act. Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology, believe that everyone can work together to create a world where disease, poverty and famine subsides. To meet the urgent physical needs of the cancer patients of LOUDES MATHA CARE the programme “BAKE CAKE FOR CHARITY” was started. The money generated through selling the cakes baked by our students was diverted to foster the needs of the poor cancer patients by providing food, medical care and cloths.
10. FRUIT MIXING CEREMONY TO BAKE 500 KILOS OF CAKE
Christmas begins with fruit mixing ceremony. Every year by the first week of December Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology, conducts the fruit mixing ceremony with mix lots of colourful cherries, dates, plums and dry fruits together. Close to 125 kilos of assorted dry fruits were mixed with cinnamons, nutmeg and generous amounts of wine and honey was stored in a container until the festive season. This marinated assortment of dry fruits will be used for baking 500 kilo of plum cakes.
11. YOGA TRAINING FOR STUDENTS
Yoga is a classical Indian science dealing with the search for the soul through increasing the inner strength and controls body and mind to enable them to harmonize with spirit. Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology, arranges Yoga and meditation class for the students from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm. It reduces the stress and tensions of daily life through the practice. Yoga increases the muscle flexibility, reduces body fat and attain relaxation. Yoga is practical philosophy involving every aspects of human being. Students were much benefited with Yoga as it sharpens the intellect, improves concentration, steadies emotion and encourages caring concern for others. Yoga gives hope to life and well being of the students. By giving Yoga training Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology, aims to mold the students with right attitude.

12. BLOOD DONATION CAMP
The Social Activity Committee of Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology, organized a Blood Donation Camps on September 2015 and on October 2016 in association with Kerala State Blood Transfusion Council (KSBTC). The Principal of the institution Prof. Thomas Chacko inaugurated the function along with the organizers of this pragmatic event Adv. N.D Jeba Mohan David and Dr. Suni Mary Varghese. The pannel of medical team members from the KSBTC gave an orientation class to the donors on the ‘Importance Of Donating Blood.’ Many students voluntarily came up to donate the blood.
Quotes on the posters and banners laid through out the campus had a positive impact on the students, more than 80 student volunteers donated blood, including five female students. Refreshments were provided to the students who were part of the camp. The Principal and the Social Activity Club members took immense care to meet the requirements of students after donating the blood. The huge words and quotes on the posters had an impact on the students, it attracted them to donate the blood.
13. CAKE FEST
Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology, organised an ‘Inter-collegiate Cake Fest’ as part of its Christmas Celebrations. It was an exemplifying event dedicated to the baking and pastries industry. The competition, had on board eminent panelist having industrial experience in cruise-lines and abroad. Among the nineteen teams participated from various educational departments, team from MBA department won both first and second prize. All the competition winners were felicitated and the event concluded with distribution of certificates and cash awards. The students and faculty members of the Food Production Department played a vital role in making the function a grand success.
14. ONE DAY WORKSHOP TO TRAIN WOMEN IN BAKING CAKE
To voice the needs of women in playing their significant role in Food and Beverage Production/Service, on 7th December 2015, Lourdes Matha Institute Of Hotel Management And Catering Technology, commenced its one-day workshop on Cake baking.
The objective of the workshop entitled ‘TRAIN WOMEN IN BAKING CAKE’ was to identify and develop the skill required to prepare the batter, bake cake and decorating it with icing sugar. The workshop focused to equip the participants to start a home cake baking unit by their own. The students and faculty members of the Food Production Department played a vital role in making the workshop a grand success. The participants comprised of 12 women from different strata of income and educational background and most of the participants aimed for economic empowerment through this workshop on Baking Cake.
15. SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Lourdes Matha Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology have provided boundless weightage for sports and games from its inception. The institute is proud that almost all major games have been introduced within a short span of time. The institute is providing ample opportunities for students to excel in sports and games in the university and state level tournaments with rigor and enthusiasm. The institute aims at developing an all round personality through sports and games, which results in the intellectual, moral and physical development of the students.
The institute is having a well furnished Department for Physical Education. The college possess indoor facilities for playing caroms, chess and table tennis and outdoor facilities for performing volleyball, basketball, cricket, shuttle badminton, ball badminton, soft ball and hand ball. The swimming pool and a 400 metre athletic track is nearing completion and a full fledged multi gymnasium is on the anvil.

16. ZERO FOOD WASTE PROGRAM
In India 30% of the food produced is wasted. This Changes from country to country and sector to sector but in the best case not less than 20% of our food ends up as waste. At the same time more than 30% of our peoples are in poverty. This is simply unacceptable from a social economic and environmental point of view.
Students of Lourdes Matha have taken an intiative to reduce food wastage. This was an initiative by S7 students of Lourdes Matha Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and has entered into Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) .We the Lourdes Matha Students want to give a message to the Society that as Neil Armstrong Said ‘‘A small step for a man but a giant leap for the nation” by our small steps like sticking posters and online campaigning we were trying to spread the message of reducing wastage.
A program organized to stop unnecessary wastage of food at the canteen and the restaurants of the campus. The event was initiated by the students and faculties to create awareness among the public and a time span of one month was fixed. This period was termed as a wastage free month. In future the college has planed to spread this message to the public through campaigns and activities advertised through media. The posters were designed by the students and the aim was to develop innovations and leadership qualities in students.
17. PROFESSIONAL COURSE GUIDANCE SEMINAR – A JOINED VENTURE OF DEEPIKA AND LOURDS MATHA GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS
On 16-5-2015 DEEPIKA AND LOURDS MATHA GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS organised PROFESSIONAL COURSE GUIDANCE SEMINAR at Pastoral Center, Changanassery. Rev.Dr.Mani Puthiyadem inaugurated the function.
