    A symposium on “EAT RIGHT INDIA” movement an FSSAI initiative, was conducted on the 16th of July 2019 at 10.00am at Lourdes Matha Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (managed by the Archdiocese of Changanassery), Kuttichal, Thiruvananthapuram. “EAT RIGHT” movement is initiated to tackle the burden of Mal-nutrition, Non-communicable diseases, Food borne illness and to ensure safe and wholesome food. It is also aimed at creating awareness amongst the public on how to follow protocols of this movement, to create a culture of Eat Safe, Eat Healthy and Eat Wisely.

    The symposium was a collective effort of Lourdes Matha Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and NetProFan (Network of Professionals of Food and Nutrition), to contribute to national efforts to improve the status of food safety and nutrition. NetProFan is an initiative of The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) which includes six national associations (NSI, IDA, IMA, AFSTI, AOAC, and IFCA) to induct and develop the “EAT RIGHT INDIA” movement.

    We are proud to announce that this was the first and foremost programme in the state of Kerala to launch the concept of “EAT RIGHT INDIA” movement. The professional bodies and experts in areas of food, nutrition and public health come together with updated information. The meeting was presided over by Rev.Dr.Tomy Padinjareveetil, Manager & Director, Lourdes Matha Group of Institutions (LMCES).

    The Symposium was inaugurated by Dr.K.K.Abdul Rasheed, Principal, Musaliar Engineering College, and Co-Convener, NetProFan, Kerala Chapter; The Symposium was be enriched with the concepts of health and nutrition by Mr.Sabu P C, Adniministrative Officer and FoSTaC State Nodal Officer for Clean Street Food Hubs; Dr. Anitha Mohan, Former HOD Dietary Department, Govt. Hospital, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Representative of Nutrition Society of India, Senior Nutrition Consultant. Dr. Swapna S Kumar, Joint Secretary, Indian Medical Association, IMA Food Safety Initiative, Secretary IMA Woman Doctors’ Wing, Trivandrum, Medical Officer, Kerala Government Health Services Department. and Smt.Soumya Nair, HOD Dietary Department, ESIC Hospital, Ministry of labour and Employment, State Convener-Indian Dietetic Association. The symposium was Felicitated by Fr.Sony Mundunadakkal, Executive Director, LMCES, Fr. Avies Edachethera, Bursar,LMCES. Dr. Mohanlal P. P, Principal, LMCST. and Prof. Ranjith Pillai, Principal, LMIHMCT. Karthika, Reshmi Rajan and Sajeena, food safety officers interacted with the participants. Nearly 300 delegates from host institutions, agricultural university, paramedics, dietitians and school students attended the symposium.
